Who are Superior Hats?

We’re a Colombian artisanal hat company obsessed with making hats the right way: by hand, with the best materials, and without cutting corners. Every hat that leaves our studio is custom made. We’re based in Pasto, Nariño, and our roots in paja toquilla weaving go back three generations.

What materials do you use?

For our Panama Hats, we weave paja toquilla fiber ourselves, the same plant-based fiber that has been used in South America for centuries. For felt hats, we work with carefully selected beaver and rabbit fur felt. Both materials are worked entirely by hand, following traditional techniques that haven’t changed much in over a hundred years.

What kind of hats do you specialize in?

We make both felt hats and Panama Hats, but the Panama Hat is where we really shine. It’s the most technically demanding hat to make. Watch our process here.

QUALITY & ORIGIN

What’s the difference between your Panamas and others on the market?

Every Fino and Superfino hat body is woven by our own team of master weavers. All finishing is done by hand in our studio. No hydraulic presses, no industrial adhesives, and no shortcuts that could compromise the weave. See the difference.

Are Panama Hats only made in Ecuador?

That’s a common misconception. “Panama Hat” is a popular name for hats woven from paja toquilla fiber. In southern Colombia, we’ve been weaving paja toquilla since the mid-19th century, and that tradition is very much alive. Read our history.

ORDERS & SIZING

How long does it take to make a hat?

Most of our hats take around three weeks from start to finish. A Superfino paja toquilla hat can take considerably longer, as the finest weaves require weeks of patient work by a single artisan.

Can I get a custom hat?

Absolutely. It is one of our favorite things to do. If you have something specific in mind, reach out and let’s talk. We’ll figure it out together.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Since every hat is made specifically for you, we cannot accommodate changes once production begins. However, we guarantee that if something is wrong on our end, we’ll make it right. See our Returns & Refunds Policy.

HAT CARE

How do I take care of my hat?

Keep it away from direct heat, store it upside down or on a hat stand, and if it gets wet, let it dry naturally at room temperature. Never use a dryer or heater. For deeper cleaning, check our full Hat Care Guide.
